miniMOT™

ColdQuanta’s Magneto-Optical Trap (MOT) is designed for educational institutions and research groups working on cold atoms. The lab, whether educational or part of a research group will be able to dive into the creation of cold atoms without having to have the expertise in vacuum technology currently required to set up such experiments.

The miniMOT™ device comprises of the ultra-high vacuum cell, the rubidium source, excellent optical access and an ion pump in a compact cost-efficient package. Customers will be able to produce cold trapped atoms at temperatures as low as 50 microKelvin.

The miniMOT™ kit

ColdQuanta’s optomechanics kit is designed for either the seasoned researcher or a student in a physics lab to produce a rubidium MOT easily and rapidly. The kit contains:

  • the miniMOT™ and coils on a 15” x 18” aluminium breadboard with a periscope/beam splitting/polarization assembly 
  • mirrors for ease of trap alignment, integrated coil driver and a small B&W CCD camera for MOT imaging 

This compact kit enables the researcher, educator or student to produce a MOT with or without the optical expertise normally required to design, acquire, and setup their own system. Elegant in design, it is simple to use and producing a live MOT is achievable in hours. Significant time and cost savings can be realized by using this pre-assembled unit. For a well-rounded educational institution teaching cold atom physics it will be indispensable.

While the configuration has been preset for optimal ease of use, it is simple to adjust for both minor and significant changes. As it stands, beam shaping and splitting has been radically simplified for the end-user. The miniMOT™ Kit has a lower beam height of 1.5″ and a focusing system with a magnification of 16X (75mm/4.51mm @ 780).

Aside from the miniMOT™ kit the customer will need two lasers (or single laser and modulator), and coupling optics to produce a MOT.

 

NEW miniMOT SE™ kit

The new miniMOT SE™, a compact version of the miniMOT, has a similar functionality as the original miniMOT™ but in a smaller footprint.

This compact kit enables the user to produce a MOT with or without the optical expertise normally required to design, acquire, and setup their own system. This pre-assembled unit permits significant time and cost savings. It is an indispensable tool for teaching cold atom physics.

The kit contains:

  • the miniMOT SE and coils on a 12″ × 18″ (300 mm x 450 mm) aluminum breadboard with a periscope/beamsplitting/polarization assembly 
  • mirrors for ease of trap alignment
  • a small B&W CCD camera for MOT imaging

The miniMOT SE Kit has a lower beam height of 1.5″ and a beam expanding telescope with a magnification of 22.2X (100mm/4.51mm @ 780). Aside from the miniMOT SE kit the customer will need two lasers (or single laser and modulator) and coupling optics.
